The NBA All-Star Game 2013 dominated All-Star weekend in Houston with an array of spectacular dunks and plays that force you to press the rewind button on your DVR. With so many star players for each team it is always guaranteed to entertain even non NBA fans. Even my mom was texting me throughout the game and to my knowledge she has never seen an NBA All-Star Game. The show began right away with the starters from both teams displaying exactly why they were voted to be starters.

It seemed like a few players were aiming for the NBA All-Star Game MVP right from the start by taking over on offense (which is typically how this game works). Kevin Durant for the West and Carmelo Anthony for the East reaffirmed why they are two of the top talents in the NBA from beginning to end setting the pace for the game.

All-Star Game MVP, Chris Paul

Toward the end of the game, things began to heat up as time started to run out. Chris Paul went crazy either assisting or scoring on almost every play with help from Durant and his scoring ability. By the end of the game Paul racked up 20 points and 15 assists and took the MVP award. Durant followed in second for MVP with 30 points and 6 rebounds for the West.

Kobe blocks Lebron

It wasn’t only offense that dominated the last few minutes, but the sudden and incredible defense of Kobe Bryant one on one with Lebron James. It may have been the most entertaining moment of the night because All-Star Games have recently abandoned defense. To see it play a large role in the outcome to the game was awesome. Bryant blocked James on two possessions in the final minutes to keep the East from scoring. It was exhilarating to watch and almost comical as Bryant flipped his defense switch “on” and surprised James  with his impressive defense.

Not to say that James did not have a good game. He had 19 points and 5 assists, but had the East won, it would have been because of Carmelo Anthony who really stepped it up toward the end and played well consistently. Anthony finished with a stellar performance and a stat line of 26 points, 12 rebounds (5 offensive) and 3 assists.
