It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s The Flu! Yuck!

Flu season is just around the corner, which usually begins during the winter season.  We have several different ways we can go about taking care of ourselves to make sure we do not become infected.  One of the most popular ways we tend to protect ourselves is with the flu vaccine. The process of creating the vaccine (influenza vaccine) is to grow the vaccine in chicken eggs for eleven days.  The effectiveness of the flu vaccine really depends on the age and the health status of the person who is vaccinated.  Influenza related deaths are most common amongst those who are 65 and older. The positives about receiving the vaccination are protection from the 3 influenza viruses which are; H1N1, H3N2 and Influenza B.  The side effects of the vaccination include symptoms that are similar to the flu itself.  People suffer from runny nose/nasal congestion, sore throat, cough, chills, tiredness/weakness, and headache.  Doesn’t that just sound like contracting the flu? The people who are high risk for contracting the flu would be; pregnant women, children younger than 5 years of age, and people with chronic medical conditions.

I personally have never been vaccinated for the flu because I would rather take a more natural/homeopathic route. There are several homeopathic remedies that can be taken orally that help protect from receiving the influenza virus. One remedy in particular is Bacillinum (30c).  This is recommended for those who have a disposition to catch colds and sore throats.  This can assist with respiratory and lung weakness. It is also is for those who have stuffy noses and headaches that worsen with motion. There are several other remedies that are available at your local health food store.  The bonus about taking homeopathic remedies versus the flu vaccine is that the flu vaccine protects you from contracting the virus whereas homeopathic care increases the body’s natural ability to fight against invading germs. If you are already experiencing flu-like symptoms and you want to take action before the flu progresses I strongly suggest Oscillococcinum. Yes, the name is outrageous but click here and find out more in depth about what it does. It is used in over 60 countries and is one of the highest recommended homeopathy remedies for the onset of the flu.

Other tips to protect you from the flu would include exercising regularly and taking vitamins such as vitamin C  to increase the body’s immune system.  Also, you should be cautious as possible during this time to make sure that you are using anti-bacterial gels and so forth after utilizing things that are available to the public.  For example; public restrooms, computers, pens, etc. People who have the flu should also be cautious not to spread the virus by covering their mouths when coughing, and try to stay away from public venues in which many people can contract the virus.  It is also smart for them to use anti-bacterial gels and so forth to make sure that they are not spreading germs. Maybe even wear a surgical mask so we all know you are infected. I am just kidding of course (maybe not).
