A Good Nights Rest is Best!
Sleep is something we all need to keep us going. It has been known that sleep has definite effects on our health. It is best to get about 6-7 hours of sleep a night. Some of us can sleep way more than that and some of us only need a few hours of sleep to get going.
Heart attacks and strokes are most common in the early morning hours. This is in relation to the lack of sleep which worsens cholesterol and blood pressure. It is said that your heart will be much healthier if you get about 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Sleep is also known for reducing stress. When you have a lack of sleep the body goes into a state of stress. This puts your body’s functions on high alert. When your body is in high alert there is an increase in blood pressure and the production of stress hormones.
A good night’s sleep can help you stay energized and alert the next day. When you are energized and alert you are able to be productive. Getting better sleep will help you remember and process things better. Napping has been found to not only improve memory but to improve cognitive function and mood.
Studies have been shown that the lack of sleep is related to an increase in depression. Sleep has an effect on many chemicals in your body including serotonin. People who have a lack of serotonin are more likely to suffer from depression.
The lack of sleep can also increase weight gain. Studies have shown that people who get less than 7 hours of sleep a night are more likely to be overweight.
Sleep can also help prevent cancer! People who are exposed to light at night have lower levels of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that makes us sleepy and is thought to protect against cancer. Melatonin appears to suppress the growth of tumors. Make sure your room is dark so that your body is able to produce the amount of melatonin it needs.
Alternative methods that can assist with sleep would be melatonin. Taking melatonin in approximately 5mg helps the body supplement the melatonin that it might lack. Melatonin is all natural and non-habit forming. Another method that assists with the lack of sleep would be Valerian. Valerian helps the body become more relaxed and has been known to aide those with problems of insomnia. As I afore mentioned in my article on the benefits of sex, sex does help aide with good sleep as well! There are far too many benefits from getting a good night’s sleep to be missing out. In conclusion, if you are not sleeping well you can always go the alternative route until your sleep regiment is stable.
