Just yesterday I noticed that twitter had the built in Widget feature to create the code for your website or where ever. I’m not sure if it’s been there for a little while or not but I’m going to show you how to it works. This is an easy way to add your Twitter stream which includes a Follow option, shows your feed, and you can just click and mention right on it as well. The theme that is used for this website had serious issues with any WordPress Twitter plugin. I’m so glad I saw this and started using it.
Adding Twitter Widget:
- Click the cogwheel icon to the right of the search option (used to be a half person icon until yesterday)
- Click on Settings
- Click on Widgets – It’s the bottom option on the left
- Click Create New
Now you have “Choose A Timeline Source” which has 4 options:
- User Timeline
- and Search.
Throughout this process you will see a live preview of what your widget will look like. This opens up so much that you can use this for. You could have the widget be a list of your clients to get them more exposure or create a list for top engagers and give them more expsoure. You could also have an affiliate list and showcase them. You can really utilize these features. Also you have an option of entering a keyword or hashtag search and just show a stream of that. So for example I could use #encinitas and have all of the tweets for the Encinitas Hashtag on the website to showcase.
You can choose a few different options such as your link colors etc. Then hit create and copy the code and past ethe code to your website. Then you are all done!
Also here are a couple of pictures from how the Twitter profiles appear on mobile on the Iphone. As you can see your headline image actually becomes two different images that slide. Also all of your Twitter images slide as well. This gives you an opportunity to really get creative and make your headline photo stand out on a mobile device. Enjoy and let me know what you come up with!
